Learn about our program tailored towards women in the military community.
In 2012, we began to notice an increase of veterans attending our Core Program. After much research, we discovered there were no other organizations addressing the specific needs of women veterans in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex.
With our Core program as a base, we developed Boots to Heels to address the unique needs of women in the military community: Active, Guard, Reserve, Veteran and Spouses. The women have an opportunity to interact with others who face similar challenges transitioning from military life as veterans while reclaiming their self-esteem and finding their self-worth.
Boots to Heels consists of the following three days:
Day One is an introduction to Attitudes & Attire® and the tools provided in our Core program. We assist with identifying barriers to self-esteem and equipping with tools to feel more confident. We provide a safe environment where women connect and network with each other.
Day Two focuses on employment. Women veterans and human resource professionals work one-on-one with our clients to assist with resume development, interview skills and leveraging LinkedIn. Partner agencies such as NPower and Texas Veterans Commission introduce services for continuation in the job search.
Day Three introduces community resources available to our Boots to Heels clients including Equest, Center for BrainHealth, and the Dallas Veterans Affairs Hospital.
After completing Boots to Heels, participants are invited to attend the Center for BrainHealth’s SMART (Strategic Memory Advanced Reasoning Training) program held two consecutive Fridays at Attitudes & Attire®. SMART improves brain functions we use daily such as decision-making, attention-span, planning, reasoning and judgment.
